Promotional Photography- My Images
3) This first image portrays the artist to be a strong and confident individual as he is directly looking into the camera- this alters the mood and style of the shot in comparison to 'Shot 2' as it creates more intimacy with the viewer of the shot, almost as if he is looking directly at them.
2) This image taken shows my artist holding a guitar as a prop- this is significant as it links with the musical element and adds to the overall theme of creating music. It emphases his interest and dedication as an artist himself and matches the genre.
3) Unlike some of the other various images taken, this particular shot has been taken with much 'softer' lighting. This means it appears to be much more smooth and consistent with fewer shadows. This effect works well considering the artist is wearing a white top so it blends much better with the background. However, the colour of the guitar still breaks up the shot with a contrasting shade- I achieved this effect by only casting one of the white lights on the model.
4) This image was taken using various light sources in order to create a shadow behind the artist himself, cast on the white background behind. The silhouette behind him creates a more powerful image and draws more attention to the artist. It impacts on the composition to draw more attention on the focus of the individual, also adding a sense of emotion, interest and/or mystery.
5) This image captures the artist in a more natural position as he is not making direct eye contact with the camera. This could be seen as a more intriguing shot which captures the realism of the artist himself. It introduces an element of 'unknown' into the photo as the audience will not know what the model is focusing on. This puts the viewer in 'observation mode' as if they're gaining a glimpse into the thoughts and private moments of the individual portrayed.
6) Similarly to image 3, this photo uses an example of 'softer' lighting which creates fewer shadows therefore it appears much softer with less contrast. Unlike the other images with shadows cast behind them, the model is the main focus of the image as there is no other featured element for an individual to focus on. In addition, the artist is posing in a very strong, and confident way in order to portray him to be more powerful.
7) This image shows the artist posing with his back towards the camera as if he is unaware it is even being taken, therefore, he is making no contact with the viewer in the image. This could appear as a more 'natural' shot as well as linking similarly to 'Shot 5' where an element of 'unknown' is being introduced to the audience as they don't know what the model is focusing on.
8) This final image shows the artist looking directly at the camera, which could appear as him being more aware and engaged in the audience. His facial expression is also slightly different as it is less serious, however, he is still being presented in a professional manner. There is more emphasis on his expression as it is a headshot and doesn't show below his shoulders; this draws more attention towards him as an individual (especially because there is nothing else going on in the background behind him besides his own silhouette).
