Music Video Question

Explain how representations in the music video are chosen to promote the artists:

Both songs; Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack and Titanium by Sia and David Guetta, can be interpreted in different ways in order to promote the artists so that they are appealing to a certain audience or reflecting certain viewpoints and ideas.

The extremely popular single 'Titanium' has topped charts with its hit song as well as reaching over 730 million views on its official music video, highlighting its success and popularity. This particular video promotes the artists in an unusual way, contrasting with other typical music video styles due to the fact neither Sia or David Guetta feature in the actual video itself. This could perhaps be seen as expressing the true meaning behind the song in a more obvious way as the focus is not being taken away/distracted by the popular artists themselves. This will allow the audience to get a deeper understanding into the message the video is portraying as well as what the lyrics actually possess. 'Titanium" wants to promote the artists beliefs as a true reflection of themselves... this may be viewed as emphasising the importance of inner strength and being strong in ourselves. The metaphorical references to guns and bullets represents the hateful words people say to us, yet, we should remain 'bulletproof' by ignoring it and standing our ground for what we believe in. Despite the fact the song is not promoting the artists in a physical way as they do not actually feature themselves, it is promoting a much more empowering message to present  what they stand for and their personal views.

Research Task: Dance Music

Analysing the following 'dance music' genre songs:  1) Sigala - Sweet lovin' ft. Bryn Christopher  2) MK- 17 3) CamelPhat & Elderbrook 'Cola'  1) What makes all of these music videos from the dance music genre? All these music videos have similarities in  common which can help an audience define them within the 'dance music genre'. For example, they have fast cut shots in time with the dance beat- this sustains audience interest and prevents boredom. You could also look at the locations of each of these videos because they are all set in lively atmospheres with lots going on simultaneously. The fast shots adds a sense of realism that they are in a dance/ club environment. In addition, all of the videos will feature at some point multiple people dancing... this feeds to the idea that they fit in with the conventions of dance music. 2)Explore how the artists are using representation to appeal to their target audience in these three videos by...
